Brainspotting
Brainspotting is one of the primary modalities I offer. I typically combine Brainspotting with Internal Family Sytems, Attachment healing, and Somatic Trauma resolution, along with other modalities as needed. I will use a combination of these approaches depending on your interest and comfort level, coupled with what your concerns or issues call for.
Brainspotting (BSP) was developed in 2003 by Dr. David Grand. Dr. Grand discovered that "Where you look affects how you feel."
Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. It is the brain activity, especially in the subcortical brain, that organizes itself around that eye position. Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain.
By mindfully focusing on a brainspot, the material related to that spot is accessed and processed in a powerful and efficient manner. Brainspots can be found for both challenging feelings as well as positive, resourcing, and ideal-state experiences.
Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. Brainspotting can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement.
