Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems is the primary approach I use in my sessions. When needed, I will combine IFS with Attachment healing, Somatic Trauma resolution, Brainspotting, energywork, and a range of other integrative therapeutic techniques. I will use a combination of these approaches depending on your interest and comfort level, coupled with what your concerns or issues call for.
IFS is a transformative, non-pathologizing approach to healing that conceives every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts lead by a core Self.
Everyone has a core Self, which can't be damaged, and that has the resources and capacities needed for healing. All parts are seen as inherently good and having a positive intent for the system. Through trauma, attachment injuries, and other challenging experiences, inner parts are forced from their original states into extreme roles within us.
IFS helps people heal first by accessing their core Self. Then, from a foundation of Self, people are able to heal their protective and wounded parts through a powerful process of compassionate connection, witnessing, offering a corrective healing experience, releasing extreme feelings and beliefs through unburdening, opening to new positive feelings and beliefs, and then helping protective parts choose new roles in the system.
The IFS healing process is very deep and thorough, and creates lasting transformational change.
IFS also offers a way of understanding personal and intimate relationships and stepping into life with the 8 Cs of Core Self: confidence, calm, compassion, courage, creativity, clarity, curiosity, and connectedness.
Professionals from many different backgrounds may utilize IFS to inform and guide their work. The overall mission of IFS Institute is to bring more Self leadership to the world.
